One Day – Diverse Insights: Girls’ Day 2023 at FineCom
What happens after I order a product from an online retailer? How do the packages get to my home? Where do the returned packages end up? How is a department store organized?
Around 9 girls dealt with these questions at various stations at FineCom on this year’s Girls’ Day. “It is very important to us to inform the next generation of female employees about the logistical apprenticeships at FineCom. That’s why I’m incredibly pleased that we’re taking part in Girls’ Future Day this year and that our offer has also been well received,” says Alexandra Alt General Manager at FineCom. With Girls’ Day, we give schoolgirls the opportunity to experience first-hand how much fun the logistics profession can be. “It is important for us to show what opportunities you have as a girl in logistics. You can have the courage to go into new areas in vocational training,” Alexandra Alt continues.
In their short internship, the girls experienced how exciting, varied and important logistics is. First, the girls explored the warehouse and learned, among other things, what exactly incoming goods and outgoing goods mean and how these areas work. In addition to the opportunity to pack packages, the program also included picking and returns management. The students checked and processed the returns, and in our finishing department they also learned what it means to reprocess fashion products. In general, the girls were able to learn about the different storage systems and that each product has different storage conditions.
14-year-old Louisa is very interested in logistics processes “I really like Girls’ Day at FineCom. I like the fact that you get to know so many different stations in logistics. I didn’t even know what was involved,” says the junior high school student. Louisa is particularly interested in returns management and the processing work in finishing, but the 14-year-old also showed her skills in order picking.
In addition to hands-on processes, exciting discussions were also held with the schoolgirls; all in all, the various stations provided a broad insight into the different areas of fulfillment and the tasks of a logistics center. It was a great day for both sides and FineCom will open its doors again next year for all interested female students.
The aim of Girls’ Day is to support young women in their choice of career and to awaken and promote interest in professions and courses of study in the STEM (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences, technology) field.
